JIS University, West Bengal has been established through the JIS University Act, 2014 (West Bengal Act XXII of 2014) and vide Government of West Bengal Notification No. 86-Edn(U)/OM-4L/2013, dated 3rd February, 2015. The Act came into force by the Order of the Governor on 3rd February, 2015. The University is also enlisted in the list of Private Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.
