The U.S. Embassy is recruiting for the position of Commercial Specialist. The U.S. Embassy is seeking two individuals for the position of Commercial Specialist for full performance or at a trainee level in the U.S. Department of Commerce-Commercial Service. The incumbent will be responsible for advising, monitoring, analyzing and reporting on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) matters for their area of geographic responsibility and coverage. One position will focus on the countries of South Asia-primarily: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives. The other position will focus on India.

Minimum Requirements for full performance:

  1. Bachelors Degree in Law with a specialization in intellectual property and a familiarity with the relevant Indian policies, laws, regulations and procedures governing intellectual property rights.
  2. Seven years of progressively responsible experience working in the area of intellectual property, and experience with, for example, intellectual property related corporate transactions, intellectual property licensing, brand protection and knowledge of regulatory approval systems for pharmaceutical, agrochemical and biotechnology products.
  3. Level IV (Fluency) in English and Hindi.
  4. Should have expert knowledge in at least two fields of IPR law and general knowledge of the principles governing protection of IP, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  5. Should have basic knowledge of international agreements and treaties governing intellectual property.
  6. Familiar with use of personal computer and software packages such as MS-Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet.

Minimum Requirements for Trainee level:
All above requirements are applicable except the Work experience: Six years of progressively responsible experience working in the area of intellectual property, and experience with, for example, intellectual property related corporate transactions, intellectual property licensing, brand protection and knowledge of regulatory approval systems for pharmaceutical, agrochemical and biotechnology products.

Commercial Specialist
