Member, Inspection Panel

The World Bank is inviting applications for an opening on its Inspection Panel. Established in 1993 and reporting to the Bank’s Executive Directors, the Panel is a three-member, independent, “bottom-up” accountability and recourse mechanism. At the request of affected people, it investigates Bank-financed projects to determine whether the Bank has complied with its operational policies and procedures and to address related issues of harm. The Panel is supported in its general operations and activities by a Secretariat.
In light of the Panel’s mandate and independence, Members must have a deep interest in development issues, impeccable personal and professional integrity, sound judgment and intellectual rigor, a strong record of leadership and team-work, and must be able to command trust across a broad and diverse range of stakeholders. Accordingly, the ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum of 15 years of significant and relevant experience and educational background in economic, legal, social, environmental, or other development-related fields.
  • Outstanding credentials in his or her individual field of expertise, demonstrated sound judgment and strong analytic skills.
  • Proven ability to deal thoroughly and fairly with requests across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ability to remain independent, including from Bank Management, in the exercise of his or her duties.
  • Exposure to development issues and to living conditions in developing countries as well as ability to engage and build rapport and trust with stakeholders around various and complex issues.
  • Hands-on experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, both as a team leader and member, with demonstrated flexibility to adapt to shifting workload.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with civil society and local communities, governments, the World Bank, and other international organizations.
  • Knowledge of and experience relating to the operations of the World Bank or similar institutions.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to developing countries.

PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST
The World Bank Office, New Delhi, India seeks to recruit a dynamic professional as a Procurement Specialist for the World Bank’s South Asia Region’s Procurement Services Unit (SARPS). This is a 2-year Term appointment.

The candidate should have Masters degree with a major in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering, Law, Procurement, Finance, Business Administration) plus a minimum of five years of experience in procurement and implementation of projects.

This is a country office position in India subject to local recruitment under the India compensation plan. The World Bank offers a locally competitive package.
